E-bikes help more people ride their bikes for more purposes, like people who need to bike a little further for work, parents taking their kids to school, older adults riding with loved ones, and more. Bicycle Colorado and the invite you to our free E-Bike 101 webinar to help you learn everything you need to know before and after you start riding an e-bike. We cover:
  • What is an electric bicycle and how could you use it in your life?
  • The different types of e-bikes: two wheels, three wheels, cargo baskets… Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3, and more
  • How to handle your e-bike battery safely and maintain your e-bike
  • Where you can ride different classes of e-bikes in Colorado, both on and off-road
  • Best practices for rider safety and etiquette
We also teach in-person classes for groups of 25 or more.

Have you always dreamed of riding a bike but can’t keep your balance? Does teaching your child to ride often end in tears? Our Bike School Learn to Ride lessons get kids and adults pedaling in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Our effective gliding technique has most students riding within the two hours! In the first two years of Learn to Ride lessons, we’ve taught more than 150 kids and adults how to ride.

Safe Routes to School

While many adults remember joyfully biking or walking to school, most kids today are driven to school and just about everywhere else. We want to make sure today’s kids have the opportunity to enjoy active transportation so that they are healthy and connected with their communities and their schools experience less congestion and better air quality. Bike School’s Safe Routes to School programs are a great way to get kids excited about walking and wheeling to school and teach them how to do so safely.

Confident Commuting

When you get around by bike, you save money, help the environment and feel great! Bike School’s Confident Commuting course can be implemented anywhere—workplaces, community centers or even your local brewery during happy hour. Participants learn about bike options and gear, safety tips, rules of the road, route-finding, infrastructure and maintenance to increase their confidence on a bike and navigating street and trails.

Tailored Bike School Programs

Bicycle Colorado’s Bike School offers more than the education opportunities above. We work with community partners around the state and in the Denver area to offer programs of all shapes and sizes to encourage bicycling in the community, get people outside and out of their cars. Take a look at some of our recent programs below.

MY Denver Bikes earn-a-bike program

In summer 2017, Bicycle Colorado wrote the curriculum and trained Denver Parks and Recreation instructors for the City’s MY Denver Bikes week-long earn-a-bike programs. The program taught 100 middle school students in four Denver recreation centers about bike safety, laws, infrastructure, maintenance and handling skills. Kids left the week with their own bike, lock and helmet, all donated by DaVita. Participants expressed they were proudest of their flat-changing skills and endurance–some groups rode up to 10 miles in one morning!

Westwood Bike Library

Bicycle Colorado, along with Westwood Unidos and neighborhood youth, helped launch the Westwood Bike Library in summer 2017. We purchased equipment based on community input and helped develop operation procedures utilizing best practices. The library is a great leadership opportunity for the youth who manage the check-out process and make basic repairs to bikes from neighbors. It has become a gathering place during summer months and resource to encourage more bicycling among Westwood residents.

African Community Center Learn to Ride

Our partnership with the African Community Center began when Bicycle Colorado launched our Learn to Ride classes in Spring 2016 and offered lessons to ACC community members. Elevation Cycles then hosted a happy hour to raise funds for additional lessons in 2017. We look forward to continued programming with the African Community Center. We teach refugees how to ride and safely and legally bike in the city and are facilitating partnerships to find bikes for adults and families to own.

Athmar Park Active Living Coalition activities

In spring 2017, Bicycle Colorado supported a bike ride for nearly 20 Math and Science Leadership students from Huston Lake Park to their school. Kids listened to a brief safety presentation and ate snacks before taking off with Bicycle Colorado educators, MSLA staff, District 4 bike officers and a squad car leading the way.

Cultivate Health Bike Fiesta

Bicycle Colorado wrapped up a partnership with Cultivate Health with a final Bike Fiesta Day at Guardian Angels Elementary in spring 2017.
